Preparations are underway to turn the Ernest Morial Convention Center in New Orleans into an emergency field hospital.

With hospital capacity expected to exceed limits by next week, patients could be moved to one of two wings at the convention center. Each of those wings houses around 120 beds.

Meanwhile, a New Orleans doctor on the coronavirus frontlines had this to say about his experience so far treating the virus:

"It's like watching a train crash in slow motion," explained Dr. Julio Figueroa, LSUHSC Chief of Infectious Diseases. "You know it's going to happen, but there's not much that you can do about it."

Orleans Parish has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the state, with 1,298 cases. The parish is reporting 70 deaths.
