A nurse in New Orleans East has died from COVID-19.

According to The Advocate, Larrice Anderson was working on the front lines and treating patients when she too contracted the virus.

She is the first coronavirus-related death of a local healthcare worker publicly announced.

Coworker and friend Dorothy Lewis said Anderson put caring for her patients above all else, committing to her oath even though she had underlying health conditions.

Anderson was 46.
