Many roadways in Louisiana remain closed due to icy conditions following Monday's ice storm and freezing temperatures on Tuesday.
State Police said Tuesday night that there is no estimate as to when state roadways will reopen. LSP continue to ask for essential travel only out of an abundance of caution.
The arrival of Wednesday's winter weather system has brought many unknowns given the current roadway conditions.
As of Tuesday night, Troop I alone has responded to just under 100 traffic incidences. LSP says with the holiday ending, more volume of traffic, and roadways still having ice and, almost worse, patches of ice, that number will continue to rise.
As of Tuesday, February 16, I-10 from I-49 to Baton Rouge remains closed. Many portions of the roadway are still coated in ice making travel dangerous.
The new bridge, which crosses the Mississippi River into Baton Rouge, was shut down on Monday night and remains closed. Travelers would have to divert onto La 415 and make their way to the old bridge.
In north Louisiana, sections of I-49 above Alexandria are also closed.
Gossen says that traveling north is not a good option as many of the roads are still covered in a thick layer of ice and snow.

The Scott Police Department announced Tuesday that all roads in the city are open, but ice remains on some roads and motorists should be cautious if they choose to be on the roadways.
US 90 from Lafayette to Iberia is open. The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that as of 1 pm Tuesday all overpasses on Hwy 90 in Iberia Parish are open.
Following the closure of US 90 in St. Mary Parish on Wednesday morning due to icy conditions, all roadways, overpasses, and bridges in St. Mary Parish are now open, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Lafourche Parish sheriff's office on Wednesday says that all overpass bridges on U.S. Highway 90 just outside of St. Mary Parish to New Orleans are closed due to dangerous icy conditions. This includes Lafourche Parish. It is unknown when the bridges will reopen.
In Acadia Parish on Wednesday afternoon, Hwy 92 between Hwy 90 & Hwy 91 west of Morse was closed per DOTD. Drivers are asked to use alternate routes.
Drivers are asked to remain off of roads if possible into Wednesday due to icy conditions.
