"When I didn't get the job at USC I said, hey, maybe you'll be an assistant the rest of your life. I just loved coaching. But everything fell into place, and we're just getting started. This is not the finish. I want to be here at LSU for a long time and win many a championships at LSU, and this is just the beginning," said LSU head coach Ed Orgeron.
With a 42-25 win over Clemson, LSU will put it's name in the hat for best college football team ever.
It was a slow start Monday night down two scores, but LSU hung tight, winning the school's fourth national title.
"We're a well coached technical team. It's what we do. What we believe in. When we're down, our coach, Coach Johnson says when we're down, go back to mama," said Rashard Lawrence, Senior Defensive Line. "Believe in the techniques and look what it got us."
"All credit to Joe and the offense. That guy is incredible. He set records tonight and is the best quarterback in college football I've seen. The defense got it done. National Champs, sounds great," added Grant Delpit, Junior Safety.
Thaddeus Moss, Junior Tight End, thought the answer was simple.
"Best offense in college football history, best team in college football history. Nothing more to be said."
And that is a real conversation people will be having for years to come...is LSU the best team in the history of the game?
Coach O was asked that exact question Tuesday morning. His response? "I think so."
