Initial unemployment insurance claims drop for week ending May 2

BATON ROUGE, La. - The initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending May 2, 2020 dropped to 50,941 from the week ending April 25, 2020 total of 66,141. For a comparison, during the week ending May 4, 2019, 2,009 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 72,165 from the previous week's average of 84,972.

The unemployment insurance continued claims for the week ending May 2, 2020 increased to 310,013 from the week ending April 25, 2020 total of 300,657. The continued claims were above the comparable figure of 13,841 for the week ending May 4, 2019.

The four-week moving average of continued claims increased to 268,625 from the previous week's average of 221,307.
