A network of churches in Florida is mourning the loss of a pastor who died on his way to help in the recovery of Hurricane Laura.
Rev. Chuck Glass, who was a leader of Northside Assembly of God in Bonifay, was heading to Louisiana with another volunteer when the crash happened in Florida on Monday morning. The second person involved was injured.
A spokesperson with the West Florida District Council of the Assemblies of God says Rev. Glass was part of an effort among many churches to bring supplies and volunteers to help in relief efforts. Having experienced widespread damage from Hurricane Michael 2 years ago, they say they understand first-hand the need that follows the devastation of a major storm.
Messages of condolences and prayer fill social media, including on Rev. Glass's church's page where their mission is posted, “Love God, Love Others, and Serve.” His family tells us, "His heart was to show people the love of Jesus through action. He called it 'love with skin on.'
Chuck was 40 years old and leaves behind a wife and four children.
