It's official. The new baby giraffe at the Baton Rouge Zoo has been named.
In a post on facebook, the zoo announced the winning name.
"You voted. We tallied. Meet Burreaux!!!"
The Burreaux name beat out two other names Romeo and Kiume. The giraffe is now named after Heisman trophy winner and LSU quarterback Joe Burrow. The public was able to vote by donating to the BREC zoo website.
" Thanks to everyone who nominated and supported the cause. This little guy has big shoes to fill, but something tells us he's up for the challenge!" the zoo said.
The male reticulated giraffe that was born on December 26, 2019. Burreaux was born to 6-year-old, first-time mother, Rosie, and 13-year-old father, Rowan, according to the zoo.
