All K-12 schools in state now required to report positive COVID-19 cases to LDH

The Louisiana Department of Health issued an emergency order this week requiring all K-12 schools in the state to report all cases of COVID-19 to the state.

All schools, including public, private, and charter "are required to report all known or suspected positive COVID-19 cases" in students, faculty, and staff via a newly developed electronic reporting system.

Schools already share much of the information regarding COVID-19 cases with LDH, but the new system will help streamline the process.

All information will remain password protected, and each school will receive a unique password and portal to protect health information.

LDH will continue to report statistical information, including a breakdown by percentage, of positive cases in students and staff in Louisiana schools.

The order is effective immediately and in effect until rescinded by the State Health Officer.
