Louisiana State Police say a Baton Rouge woman was arrested Friday morning for DWI after crashing into a state police vehicle and injuring a trooper in a construction zone on I-10.

Troopers say the crash happened shortly before 11:45 pm on Thursday, May 23 on I-10 West just east of LA Hwy 3246 (Siegen Lane) in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The trooper received moderate injuries.

An investigation revealed that the crash occurred while the trooper was working in a traffic construction zone. The fully-marked LSP Tahoe reportedly had its emergency lights activated and was stopped in the right lane of I-10 West. A construction “crash-truck” was positioned behind the state trooper’s vehicle at the time, according to state police.

Volha Tryshyna

Troopers say that 31-year-old Volha Tryshyna of Baton Rouge was traveling westbound on I-10 when she passed the “crash-truck” and struck the rear of the LSP vehicle.

The trooper was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

Tryshyna was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was uninjured. State Police say that impairment is suspected on her part.

Tryshyna was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the following charges:

  • DWI
  • Vehicular negligent injuring
  • Careless operation.

The crash remains under investigation.
