A proposal to clear up the language in gun control laws is advancing at the state capitol.

Erath representative Blake Miquez says his bill would prevent local governments from creating gun regulations that are more restrictive than what’s in state law.

Among the scenarios, where you can and can’t carry a firearm. Those regulations apply to certain businesses and public buildings. Miguez wants to be sure that in all cases the state law comes first.

“We would have consistent policy across all 64 parishes in Louisiana. And a law abiding citizen gun owner would know what the laws are when they travel from one parish to another. It would ensure that those law abiding citizens wouldn’t be criminalized for not knowing the gun laws in any city or municipality they may be visiting,” Miguez said.

The bill has passed in the house by a vote of 68 to 30. It now heads to the senate for consideration.
