A person is missing in the Mississippi River after the Coast Guard says a vessel capsized just north of Point A La Hache on Monday.

Officials say the 54-foot towing vessel, Seattle Slew, capsized in the lower Mississippi River near Myrtle Grove Fleet at 8:12 pm on Monday. Three people were on board the vessel at the time of the capsizing.

Two people were able to be recovered. The Coast Guard says that one person is still missing.

Aiding in the search are the Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, Coast Guard Station Venice, and the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Department marine asset crew.

The Mississippi River is closed from mile marker 55 to mile marker 58 while crews work to recover the missing person.

An investigation into what caused the capsizing is ongoing.
