UPDATE: The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Department has identified the body found on New Year’s Day in a cane field in Rosedale.
The department says the body is that of 28-year-old Travis Smart of Baton Rouge. Deputies are investigating the incident as a homicide and say the victim likely died of gunshot wounds.

According to WBRZ, The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a body found dumped in a cane field in Rosedale.
The Sheriff’s department tells WBRZ that the body is that of a black male in his mid-30s and that no identifying information was found.
The sheriff says that they believe the body was dumped around 5:00 am Tuesday in the sugarcane field off of Sidney Road.
The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is expected to investigate. The Sheriff’s office released photos of tattoos on the body in an effort to help identify him.
