LSU SGA senator arrested on rape charge in Rapides

Rapides Parish Sheriff’s deputies have arrested an LSU grad student and accused him of rape and battery.

Edouard d’Espalungue, 28, of Baton Rouge was booked with sexual battery and second-degree rape in connection with a September incident.

The victim told deputies that they were attending a retreat in the Woodworth area when another attendee sexually assaulted them.

Deputies first arrested d’Espalungue and booked him on sexual battery, and he was released on $25,000 bond. After detectives worked on the case further, they arrested him again and booked him with second-degree rape. He was released after he posted a $75,000 bond.

d’Espalungue is a French foreign national attending LSU and the judge also ordered d’Espalungue to relinquish his passport as part of his bond conditions. He also is not allowed to leave the state.

According to LSU’s SGA Senate Membershippage, d’Espalungue is a Senator representing the Graduate School.
