Person killed in Hammond trooper-involved shooting identified

UPDATE: State Police have identified the person killed early this morning in a trooper-involved shooting in Hammond.

State Police say 23-year-old Coltin Brennan Leblanc of Loranger was killed this morning following a struggle with a trooper during a traffic stop on North Oak Street and US 190 in Hammond.

Leblanc was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died. The trooper was not injured in the incident.

Louisiana State Police say they are investigating a fatal trooper-involved shooting in Hammond.

Troopers say the incident occurred early Thursday morning when a trooper from State Police Troop L was conducting a traffic stop on North Oak Street at US 190 in Hammond, according to a press release.

According to State Police, a struggle occurred during the stop and the officer fatally shot the person.

The person was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. A short time after arriving, state police say the person was pronounced dead.

The trooper was not injured during the incident.

No names or identifying information about the trooper or the person have been released.

Police also did not say what led to the traffic stop.

State Police detectives, with the Bureau of Investigations Region I, are investigating the shooting at this time.
