Ochsner Health Systems says that their Lafayette locations have received no new vaccine allocations this week.
The announcement from the health system comes as Louisiana has seen a 70 percent decline in the vaccine supply over the past four weeks. Ochsner says the state is working through the allocation process from the federal government.
The decline led to the recent cancellations of appointments for Ochsner patients to receive the vaccine for the first time. Those who were scheduled have now been placed on a waiting list and will be called for an appointment when more vaccine is made available.
21,400 people were affected by cancellation blast sent out by Ochsner last week. Rescheduling is currently underway in areas where vaccine is available. Ochsner says patients will be contacted in the same order in which they were scheduled.
Second doses of the vaccine are still being made available. Those who have already received their first dose of either Pfizer or Moderna vaccine will still be able to receive their second dose at the appropriate time.
Last week, Oschner was given 3,900 doses of vaccine for distribution, with 975 going to the Lafayette area. This week, January 25 - January 31, 2021, Lafayette will not receive any vaccine for first doses.
Rescheduling for those people affected will not happen until new vaccine doses are received for Lafayette. Ochsner will know on Friday what number of vaccine has been allocated to each region.
Ochsner says the number is only within their health system. Other vaccine distributors in the area may still be receiving vaccine for this week.
Those interested in the vaccine can call 1-855-206-9675. For more information, visit OchsnerLG.org/vaccine.
Officials says that COVID-19 is declining at Ochsner Health System. There are currently 520 across the entire system down from 590.
75 cases are being treated at Ochsner Health in the Lafayette area.
