SULPHUR — A Vinton man is dead following a single-vehicle crash along Houston River Road in Sulphur.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office says that the crash happened Tuesday evening at around 6:45 p.m in the 2200 block of Houston River Road in Sulphur. When deputies arrived, they say they spoke with a witness who stated they were traveling westbound on Houston River Road when a car passed them in a no passing zone at a high rate of speed. The car then drifted off the roadway to the left.
An investigation revealed after the car drifted off the roadway for unknown reasons. Deputies say it struck a driveway and ditch, went airborne and traveled over 300 feet before striking a culvert. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Austin W. Hebert of Vinton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say that It appears speed may be the cause of the accident. An investigation is ongoing.
