A Texas man is dead following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday night on LA Hwy 12 in Calcasieu Parish involving a log truck.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D say they responded to the crash shortly after 7:00 pm on October 22 just east of the Texas state line. The crash claimed the life of 67-year-old James Edgar Wilson of Orange, Texas.

An investigation by troopers revealed that Wilson was traveling east on LA Hwy 12 in the westbound lane. At the same time the driver of an 18-wheeler log truck was traveling west on LA Hwy 12.

Troopers say that in an attempt to avoid a crash the driver of the log truck steered to the left and entered the eastbound lane. At the same time, Wilson began to steer his vehicle back into the eastbound lane and struck the front of the log truck.

According to troopers, Wilson was unrestrained at the time of the crash and received fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the log truck sustained minor injuries. Troopers say impairment is unknown at this time but toxicology sample were taken from both drivers.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
