A 17-year-old boy was arrested at Iowa High School yesterday after the school resource officer allegedly found garden shears in his backpack.
The boy allegedly told other students that he had a weapon, then tried to say he was joking. The teacher took the backpack, but the boy pushed the teacher, took back his backpack and left the classroom. The SRO was contacted, and told the boy might have a weapon in his backpack. The SRO and other school personnel found the boy and asked him to stop, but he wouldn't. The SRO stopped the boy and searched the backpack and found a pair of garden shears with seven-inch blades in it.
The student was booked in the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds.
CPSO School Resource Officer Sgt. Jubal Marceaux and Detective Larry Cormier are the lead investigators on this case.
