LAKE CHARLES, La. — All classes at SOWELA Technical Community College will be virtual the first two weeks of the Spring 2021 semester with classes starting online Tuesday, Jan. 19.
According to a release from SOWELA, the two weeks of virtual learning acts as a waiting period to help ensure the health and safety of SOWELA students, faculty and staff due to the potential of increased exposure to COIVD-19 from holiday gatherings.
Classes originally scheduled in the face-to-face format will resume on campus Monday, Feb. 1.
Virtual learning will help SOWELA facilitate critical instruction necessary to lay the foundation for coursework this semester, the release states.
SOWELA says those returning to face-to-face instruction on Monday, Feb. 1, should plan to do so with COVID-19 protocol in place. Students unable to attend scheduled on-campus classes on February 1 should contact their instructors or dean.
SOWELA adds it will continue to offer laptops and hotspots to any student in need of technology equipment. Students can request equipment at www.sowela.edu/student-life/student-services/health-center/coronavirus/.
