Some schools in Calcasieu Parish will open next week for the fall semester.

The parish was set to start school on August 24, but Hurricane Laura's August 27 landfall set that opening back a bit. CPSB closed all sites and facilities on August 29 until further notice due to damage caused by Laura.

But now officials are making plans to open 10-15 schools at some point next week (week of Sept. 28) in the same face-to-face format that administrators planned for the original start date. A number of schools will open each following week, with nearly all schools reopening by the third week in October.

The district will also offer online learning to all students beginning on Monday, September 28. With internet and power outages still a concern in many areas, officials say that it's important that opportunities exist for learning where available.

Calcasieu Parish parents and students can visit THIS LINK for more information on the district's virtual learning format and send any additional questions to virtual@cpsb.org.
