Iowa man arrested in connection with DeQuincy murder

The Iowa man wanted in connection with a DeQuincy homicide has been arrested.

According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Ofice, 40-year-old Nathaniel Mitchell was arrested Monday night, July 29, after he turned himself in. He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

Mitchell was wanted on a second-degree murder charge in the death of 29-year-old Zacchaeus "Zac" Burton of Baton Rouge. Burton's body was found burned on Wednesday, July 17 on the side of D. Williams Road in DeQuincy.

Detectives say that Mitchell boarded a plane bound for St. Louis, Missouri following the incident. Mitchell has an extensive criminal history, including drug charges, attempted murder, obstruction and resisting charges and robbery charges, according to Sheriff Tony Mancuso.

Another person 27-year-old George A. Buck of Lake Charles was arrested on July 24, 2019.According to deputies, Buck allegedly met with Nathaniel Mitchell, III in DeQuincy where Burton was murdered. He is also booked on a charge of second-degree murder
