Commencement exercises for Fall graduates of Southwest Louisiana Community College have been postponed due to damage incurred from hurricanes Laura and Delta.
The college announced Friday, November 13, that the December 18 commencement exercises would be postponed.
Students who were to graduate in the Fall will be invited to participate in the Spring 2021 Commencement Ceremony, they say.
Academic transcripts and diplomas will be available to students in early 2021.
“We feel strongly that our students need to be recognized in front of their families and peers for their educational achievements so we hope that our Spring commencement ceremony will allow this recognition to happen,” said SOWELA Chancellor Dr. Neil Aspinwall.
The college says that students who complete their programs of study by the end of the Fall 2020 semester will still earn their credential(s) and graduate even though they may not participate in a formal graduation ceremony.
