Former teacher indicted on rape charge in Beauregard Parish

A former Calcasieu Parish teacher has been indicted on a rape charge in Beauregard Parish.

According to KPLC, 35-year-old Deidre Smith is accused of raping a 10-year-old. Smith was originally arrested in May of 2019 after reports of a possible inappropriate relationship with a student.

She is a former teacher at Lake Charles Charter Academy.

Today, a grand jury in Beauregard Parish handed down a charge of first-degree rape against Smith. Smith is also facing charges of in Calcasieu Parish including indecent behavior with a juvenile, eight counts of first-degree rape, seven counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile, oral sexual battery, and two counts of sexual battery of a victim under 13.

She was indicted in July 2019 in Calcasieu Parish. The indictment in Beauregard Parish is involving the same 10-year-old student, KPLC reported. Smith was arrested on that charge in August 2019.
