A former Lake Charles teacher accused of raping a 10-year-old student has been indicted.
According to KPLC, 34-year-old Deidre Rae Smith was indicted on indecent behavior with a juvenile, eight counts of first-degree rape, seven counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile, oral sexual battery, and two counts of sexual battery of a victim under 13.
Smith was arrested in May after deputies received a complaint regarding a possible inappropriate relationship between Smith and one of her 10-year-old students. She is a former teacher at Lake Charles Charter Academy.
An investigation uncovered that Smith had allegedly been in a relationship with the child since the end of 2018. Smith also allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim.
In June Smith was rearrested on additional sexual offenses. That arrest stemmed from numerous incidents that occurred in 2019 with the same 10-year-old. Read more here.
