Eunice residents came together on Saturday to help out those in need following Hurricane Laura.
Volunteers traveled to Lake Charles to cook hamburgers and hot dogs for anyone who needed a meal. There were enough meals to feed around 5,000 people.
They also delivered supplies like water, cleaning supplies, and baby wipes.
Helping in the efforts was the Eunice City Marshal's Office, who posted on Facebook that they were able to collect a good amount of supplies to take to Southwest Louisiana, some donated by Acadian Medical Center.
City Marshal Terry Darbonne praised Eunice residents for stepping up and doing their part to help their neighbors.
"This is just amazing to see all these people drive here from Eunice to cook 5,000 hamburgers and hot dogs. And not a complaint in the world, just a lot of tears shared by our people serving these people."
One volunteer said those involved were family, friends, and neighbors who decided to come together, collect donations, and cook for those in need. Or, "just a community of people trying to help another community of people in need."
Thanks to Acadian Medical Center and staff for donating all these items to be taken to Lake Charles this weekend. What a GREAT local hospital we have!
