LAKE CHARLES, La. - A 29-year-old Duson man is accused of rape and home invasion.

On April 25, 2019, Lake Charles Police were called to investigate an incident where the victim stated a man, whom she did not know, forced his way into her home and sexually assaulted her, according to Captain Kevin Kirkum, Department Spokesman.

The incident took place in the 3500 block of W. Roosevelt St. at 8:00am. The victim told officers that the suspect knocked on her door and asked if her husband was home because he needed some help fixing something. The victim told the man her husband was not home. The victim said the suspect then began to turn as if he was leaving and produced a weapon. The suspect forced his way into the home, demanded money, and then sexually assaulted her, Kirkum stated.

Investigation into the incident resulted in a warrant being issued for the suspect, Dasmond Jamal Simmons, for first degree rape and home invasion on June 21, 2019.

Simmons was located in Lafayette in jail on unrelated charges, according to Captain Kirkum.

On July 1, 2019, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office picked up Simmons in Lafayette, brought him to Lake Charles, and he was booked on the charges.

Bond was set at $850,000.
