A Sulphur woman has died following a Wednesday night crash on N. Claiborne Street in Calcasieu Parish.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office says the single-vehicle crash occurred April 22 around 10:00 pm near the intersection of N. Claiborne Street and Sim Portie Road in Sulphur.
The crash claimed the life of 59-year-old Lisa A. Shepard.
Deputies say Shepard was traveling southbound on N. Claiborne Street when her vehicle exited the roadway. The vehicle then struck a road sign and culvert before coming to rest in a ditch.
According to deputies, Shepard became trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extracted by emergency crews.
She was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Toxicology samples were taken from Shepard for analysis.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
