A child was struck by a vehicle Friday morning while getting onto a school bus in Sulphur.
The Sulphur Police Department said they were investigating the vehicle pedestrian crash on January 22 on East Burton Street near West Mimosa.
According to police, the child was transported to a local hospital. The extent of injuries is unknown at this time.
Traffic was being detoured around the scene and drivers were asked to avoid the area while officials were on scene.
The Calcasieu Parish School Board released the following statement about Friday morning's incident:
"Earlier this morning, one of our students was struck by a vehicle while attempting to load a school bus. This is obviously a very difficult time, and our hearts are with our student and all families involved. The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is always a number one priority, and these situations affect all of us. As this is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Sulphur Police Department, we will not be releasing additional information at this time."
