CPSB Statement on Movement to Phase 2

Today, the state released numbers showing 10,393 positive cases in Cacalsieu Parish so far, with 66 of them reported since Wednesday. Also since Wednesday, two people have died of COVID in the parish. For the week of November 5 through 11, 12.3 percent of tests administered to parish residents were positive. for the week of November 12 through 18, that number was 11.3 percent.

While we are very excited to be returning to a little more normalcy next week as our 7th-12th graders return five days a week in a face-to-face environment, we are approaching the schedule change with caution. We are closely watching the developments on a state level following Governor John Bel Edwards’ announcement that Louisiana will return to Phase 2.

The executive order from the Governor and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education’s issued policy allow school districts to continue to operate under Phase 3 guidelines. Under the modified Phase 2 structure, we will continue with the previously released face-to-face plans.

"As we know now more than ever, the value of the time our students get with their teachers in a face-to-face setting is crucial to the educational process," said Superintendent Karl Bruchhaus. "While there will certainly be challenges ahead with protecting that time in our school buildings because of COVID-19, we are committed to providing those opportunities for our students whenever possible."

We appreciate the diligence of our faculty, staff, and families displayed thus far in helping us to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Safety measures already in place will continue to be enforced including social distancing to the maximum extent possible, temperature checks, and wearing face coverings.

In keeping with the previously released plans, students will be able to switch educational options from November 30 – December 4. Parents/guardians can switch a student from either educational option one time during this week. Change forms can be completed in the school’s front office.
