A bicyclist was struck and killed overnight Saturday, October 19 in Calcasieu Parish.
Deputies say the crash happened around 8:00 pm near the intersection of Old River Road and JE Miller Road in Starks.
The crash claimed the life of 62-year-old Charles Edgar, Jr. of Starks.
An investigation revealed that Edgar was traveling south in the middle of Old River Road on a bicycle when he was struck from behind by a Jeep.
Deputies say that Edgar was wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash and that his bicycle had no front or rear lights.
According to deputies, the area where the crash occurred had no street lights.
Edgar was pronounced dead at the scene.
A toxicology report was conducted on the driver of the Jeep.
The investigation is ongoing.
