State Fire Marshal deputies say they are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a mobile home fire that is believed to have claimed the life of the homeowner.

Officials say that Just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday, May 24, the Ward 5 Fire Protection District responded to a mobile home fire in the 5500 block of St. Landry Highway in the Ville Platte area, near Bayou Chicot.

Firefighters located a body in the living room area of the home while attempting to put the fire out.

They say the body was too badly burned to determine gender, however, it is believed to be the body of a 54-year-old woman who owns the home. Official identification and preliminary cause of death are pending with the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office.

After assessing the scene, SFM investigators determined the fire originated in the home’s living room area.

At this time the exact cause of the fire is undetermined.
