Women Who Mean Business: Dr. Melanie Fowler

Dr. Melanie Fowler is a board-certified orthodontist with offices in Lafayette and New Iberia. She has owned her own practice for more than fifteen years, and is also a Clinical Associate Professor at the LSU School of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics in New Orleans. She has a passion for teaching and is the course director for the Orthodontic Journal Club and manages Orofacial Anomaly clinic patients with the residents. She is active in the American Association of Orthodontists, is a past President of the Louisiana Association of Orthodontists, and past Director on the Board of the Southwestern Society of Orthodontists.

Melanie began her volunteer journey as a member of Junior League of Lafayette in 2006. In the last fourteen years, she has had a variety of League placements in various capacities and currently serves as the 2020-2021 President. Melanie is very active within the community by volunteering at St. Mary Catholic Church as a lector and as the RCIA Coordinator. She is also a graduate of Leadership Lafayette XXIV and is a past recipient of a Top 20 under 40 award. The greatest gift she has received through volunteering is the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of people in helping our community.

Melanie is married to Dr. Shane Fowler and the proud mother of thirteen-year-old Georgia and eleven-year-old Glen, who attend the Schools of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau. Her loving parents and in-laws, Robert and Paula Merrill and Ken and Cheryl Fowler of Lafayette, have taught her love of family and community, and continue to support her in every way.
