Video from a KATC viewer on Wednesday afternoon shows a swath of congestion along I-10 as residents flee low lying and flood prone areas in Acadiana.
The vehicles on I-10 East near Butte LaRose were making their way to safer areas as gray skies loom over head. I-10 Westbound across the state, according to cameras from DOTD, show very few vehicles.
Hurricane Laura is expected to make landfall overnight near the Texas/Louisiana border. The storm is currently a category 4 storm.
In a press conference today, officials with DOTD say that evacuations routes have been put in place and traffic from neighboring states rerouted to ease congestion to the many residents under evacuations orders.
KATC's Katie Easter was out on I-10 near Crowley for a look at the traffic. At the 4:00 pm hour, the roads were clearer than they were on Tuesday as evacuations began to ramp up. Residents of Lake Arthur and Lake Charles tell our crews they were shocked to see very little congestion.
Many utility and national guard vehicles have been coming in and out of the area. I-10 West remains relatively clear.
