Police say that detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of 24-year-old Aaron Carter for second-degree murder following an investigation. Police say the murder took place on May 11, 2018, within the Abbeville City limits.

Carter was booked in 2016 after being indicted along with other accused members of the Gremlins Gang. He was booked with Racketeering, Conspiracy to commit Racketeering, and Criminal Street Gang Violence back then.

The name of the victim was not released by the department because he was a juvenile.

In 2018, KATC was contacted by the family of the victim who they identified as 16-year-old Chazton Guidry.

At the time, officers said that shots were fired near Bailey and Clover Streets. Guidry was injured in the shooting and taken to a hospital where he later died.

Carter was arrested by Lafayette Police on May 13, 2019, on the warrant issued by the Abbeville Police and was transported to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. There he was booked on several bench warrants out of Lafayette.

A hold has been placed on Carter by Abbeville Police.

Carter was booked on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the 2018 homicide. His bond has been set at $750,000.

On Saturday, KATC spoke with Guidry’s mother Denise Levine who spearheaded an event raising awareness of unsolved murder cases in the city.
