Thirteen years and not one missed day.

It’s hard to imagine how a child can attend kindergarten and grades 1st through 12th and never miss a day of school, but Gabrielle Poche did it.

Poche, who graduates from Erath High School this month, will do so with perfect attendance.

“It’s pretty exciting,” she says.

But how does that happen?

“I just never saw the point in missing school. And, I have strict parents. Like Master Sergeant parents. They just never let me miss,” she said. “I never got sick. I was always very healthy, and so I never missed a day of school.”

But everybody feels like they need a day off sometimes, right? Nope!

“I never felt like not going to school,” she said. “I remember in the second grade, I threw up in the middle of the night. The next day, my dad asked me if I wanted to go to school and I said, “yes, I have to.” I do enjoy school. I love all the teachers and the students.”

Poche says she’s proud of her accomplishment.

“It means a lot to me,” she says. “One of my previous teachers said to put that on a resume, because not a lot of people accomplish that. I’m very proud of it, and my entire family is proud of me.”

Poche said she really wants to thank her dad for “always pushing me so hard and leading me on the right path, so that I never missed a day.”

And, she has advice for other kids:

“Just don’t think you’re better than school. School is always going to be better for you,” she says.
