The Abbeville Police Department is recruiting some extra help with patrolling the streets.
The department is hiring seven part-time officers to ease over time and to make sure enough officers are working each shift.
Police Chief William Spearman says the additional officers will also alleviate some of the work from the full-time officers.
“They’re going to have all of the same post qualifications as the full-time officers,” said Chief Spearman. “A lot of them are retired officers or moved to the oil field where they still want to keep their hands in law enforcement and this will give them a chance by letting them work part-time for us on their time off.”
