Authorities are investigating a bomb threat made to Dozier Elementary this morning.

Vermilion Parish Superintendent Jerome Puyau says that students at Dozier Elementary have been taken to the Erath High School gym as a precaution while authorities search the school.

Parents are being advised to not come to pick up their children at this time. They will be alerted when they can pick their children up from the Erath High School gym. Those parents who choose to keep their children home today may do so. All absences will be excused today, according to the superintendent.

Puyau says a note was found slipped under one of the classroom doors. They believe the note was placed there during a band concert held last night.  That note contained a threat to blow up the school today. The superintendent says that the threat is not believed to be credible but the situation is being handled with caution.

Authorities were able to remove fingerprints from the note and Puyau says that the person who wrote the note will be persecuted to the fullest extent.

Several agencies are investigating.
