In Vermilion Parish, the Abbeville City Council is set to approve the first payment for renovations to its airport terminal building.

On August 28, according to the Abbeville Meridional, Mayor Mark Piazza and councilmembers held a groundbreaking on the grounds of the new terminal planned for the Abbeville Chris Crusta Memorial Airport.

The newspaper says that the airport terminal will be approximately 3,700 square feet and house a multi-media room, offices and a lounge area. The project is expected to be completed in the next year and will cost around $900,000.

Also at tonight’s meeting, the council will authorize Mayor Piazza to discuss annexing the Vermilion Oaks Country Club with owners. The annexation would put the property within city limits, allowing the city to take over operations.
