Lafayette man dies in motorcycle crash

State Police say a Lafayette man died in last night’s crash in Vermilion Parish.

Timothy Sykes, 39, died in the 9 p.m. crash on U.S. 167, State Police say.

State Police say the crash happened when Allana Herrelson, 52, of Cut Off was driving south on the highway. Sykes was riding a Yamaha motorcycle northbound.

Herrelson attempted to turn left onto Placide Road, and turned into the path of the oncoming motorcycle, State Police say. The motorcycle hit the passenger door of Herrelson’s vehicle, and Sykes sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Herrelson was cited for failure to yield.

Herrelson was properly restrained and was uninjured in the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor for either driver, but toxicology samples were taken from both to be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
