St. Mary Parish School board selects new superintendent

The St. Mary Parish School Board has selected a superintendent to replace Leonard Armato.

Thursday, in an executive session, the school board interviewed the four applicants for the position. Following those interviews, the board voted publicly, choosing Dr.Teresa Bagwell as the next superintendent.

Bagwell is currently the Assistant Superintendent of St. Mary Parish public schools with 37 years’ experience. She will start her new position on April 1, 2019.

Current Superintendent Leonard Armato is retiring on June 30, 2019.

According to KWBJ in Morgan City, Bagwell will start with a salary of $130K with an additional $5K due to her board certification status.

She received six votes from school board members.

Clyde Washington,  Dr. Glenn Barnes Jr., and Dr. Buffy Fegenbush were the other possible choices for the position. More on the applicants can be found here.
