The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office says that effective immediately, there will be no driving, riding, or hauling on top of public levees in the parish.
The Sheriff’s Department cites Louisiana revised statute 38:213. The department says that deputies will be strictly enforcing the law and that violators will be cited.
Only residents traveling to and from their residences will be allowed access to levees, according to the department.
Unnecessary travel on the top of the levees has the potential to damage the levee road.
