Two meetings will be held this week to discuss the possible impacts of the opening of the Morganza Spillway.

On Tuesday, May 28 the Army Corps of Engineers will host a meeting at the Butte LaRose Fire Station at 6:00 pm.

A second meeting will be held at Morgan City High School on Wednesday, May 29 at 10:00 am.

Operations have been underway during the past week to control flooding along Hwy 70 in Lower St. Martin and Assumption parishes as water continues to rise.

DOTD has set up sand sacks along the roadway in order to mitigate flooding.

Some of those barriers in use are made right here in Lafayette.

Six thousand feet of cellular barriers have been put into use along Hwy 70 to help open the roadway.
