ST. MARTINVILLE – Mayor Melinda Mitchell’s husband has been booked into jail after being accused yet again of violating a protective order filed by a city councilman.
According to Police Chief Ricky Martin, Lawrence “Manny” Mitchell went to Friday’s special city council meeting despite the protective order filed in January by councilman Craig Prosper.
“Manny sat there and stared down Craig,” Martin tells KATC. “Craig stopped the meeting because they couldn’t be in the same place. The mayor asked Manny to leave, and he left.”
Martin adds that Manny Mitchell followed Prosper down Main Street after the meeting ended, honking his horn and waving his arms at him.
Martin says officers spoke with Manny Mitchell, who refused to surrender.
“He said if we want him, we’re going to have to go get him,” Martin said.
Manny Mitchell was later taken into police custody Friday night. He then went to the hospital to be checked for injuries after throwing himself on the ground upon getting out of the police unit, Martin confirms.
This is the second time Manny Mitchell is run afoul of the law for allegedly violating the protective order. On January 5, just days after the order was filed, Manny Mitchell was booked and released on $2,000 bond for going to city hall, which is considered Prosper’s place of business.
