Abbeville attorney Anthony Fontana has taken over the most recent lawsuit alleging child sex abuse by Lafayette diocesan priests.
Fontana has handled many lawsuits filed by abuse victims against the church, stretching back decades to the first ones filed in Louisiana.
This case was filed by Doug Bienvenu and 11 men identifying themselves as John Doe. The suit alleges that a St. Martin de Tours Church priest, Kenneth Morvant, molested and raped them there years ago.
Morvant is dead now, and buried in the graveyard at that church.
Fontana confirmed Tuesday that he is representing Bienvenu and one other plaintiff. He said he will meet with several more tomorrow.
Fontana said he hasn’t seen the file yet, and can’t say what his next steps will be in the case. He said he will know more after he has reviewed the pleadings and other paperwork.
