A St. Martinville city employee was arrested for allegedly moving a truck that belonged to the mayor’s husband without permission.

The incident happened on Friday at city hall located at 120 S New Market St.

Police Chief Ricky Martin says the mayor’s husband left the vehicle running in front of city hall when a city employee, identified as Shelia Choplin, got inside and moved the vehicle to another parking spot.

The employee was arrested Monday and booked on charges of unauthorized use of a movable.

Choplin contacted KATC and told us that she moved the vehicle because it was illegally parked.  She also said she spoke with the judge, who said there was no just cause for her arrest. That information was later verified by city councilman Mike Fuselier.

We will be following this story for more developments.
