The St. Martin Parish School Board is moving forward in negotiations with fired Superintendent Lottie Beebe.

The board was in executive session for more than an hour hoping to come to a resolution to avoid litigation.

Board members and their attorney had no comment leaving Tuesday’s special meeting. When the board went into executive session, we could hear someone advising members to avoid going on camera.

“There are some strong feelings on the sides,” said Beebe’s attorney, Lane Roy.

He believes the board has come a long way since firing her last week.

“Some people would rather fight than switch at this point,” said Roy. “I think the cooler heads have prevailed and said, look, it’s worth trying before we get to the fight.”

Roy maintains Beebe is still Superintendent, but he’s hesitant to say the board will change their mind about her termination.

“It’s hard to say,” Roy said. “I’m inclined to tell you that that’s not their inclination, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen.”

Roy is hopeful a settlement will be reached before then end of the week.
