The St. Martin Parish School Board has terminated the contract of Superintendent Lottie Beebe.
Board Member James Blanchard confirmed that the board voted 6 to 4 to terminate the contract.
Beebe had been on a month-to-month contract since December, when the board deadlocked in a vote on a motion to extend her contract.
“Tonight we voted to terminate it,” Blanchard said.
Blanchard said he did not want to get into the details as to why that action was taken.
He said Al Blanchard, the second in command, will be interim superintendent while the board decides next steps.
“We’ll have a meeting to decide what to do to find a new superintendent,” Blanchard said.
Beebe has been superintendent since July 2013. Her current contract expired in June.
In December, she told the Teche News that she hadn’t asked for an extension and had already made retirement plans. She said she would have considered an extension because there was a lot of work to be done and she felt the board had been good to her.
“This (vote) is strictly political and not good for the children,” she told the Teche News in December. “It’s a big disappointment for me and means that my work ethic is worth nothing (to some board members). It’s all about
politics.”
