Eric Courville, a FedEx Freight driver for more than 20 years, took home first place in the 3-Axle competition on the 81st National Truck Driving Championships in Columbus, Ohio, held August 15-18. Courville qualified for the national competition when he took home champion honors at the Louisiana State Truck Driving Championships in March.

Winners from nine categories at the state level advanced to the national competition, with a grand champion crowned. Contestants are judged on a written exam, a pre-trip inspection and their driving skills. The national competition often referred to as the “Super Bowl of Safety,” is hosted by the American Trucking Association. These are the “best of the best” truck drivers in the country who “practice perfect” and compete to make our roads and highways safer.

Retired from the U.S. Navy, Eric enjoys volunteering for community events that support veterans. He and his family reside in Breaux Bridge.
