Opelousas homicide victim’s family wants shooter to come forward

Opelousas Police are investigating a deadly shooting overnight.

The shooting took place on Philips st. Near the victims home. Police arrived on the scene around 4:30 am.

The victim has been identified as 22-year-old, Steven Andrus. So far no arrests have been made.

His family is hoping that changes soon.

“Whoever did it, they need to come forward. All this violence and stuff. Killing for no reason. He would give people the shirt off of his back if they needed one,” Paula Weston, Andrus cousin said.

Weston and his mother said Andrus was peaceful.

“He was a good loving, quiet, he was quiet, just a good person.” Weston added.

The family received the news of the shooting around 5:00 am Tuesday. Weston said she couldn’t believe what she heard.

“My mind was all types of ways. My mind was everywhere.” She said.

The family hopes they’ll get answers soon.

“We just want justice. We just want justice.”
