VP Pence arrives in Lafayette for meeting with leaders of burned churches

Vice President Mike Pence has arrived at Lafayette Regional Airport for his scheduled visit to St. Landry Parish.

Pence will meet with leaders from the three churches destroyed by an arsonist last month. He is also scheduled to visit Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

KATC’s Chris Welty and Justice Henderson are at the airport for the vice president’s arrival. We will have full team coverage of Pence’s visit.

Lafayette Police say that no major road closures are expected as the Vice President’s motorcade makes its way through Lafayette and into St. Landry Parish. There was no determined route for the vice president’s travel.

On Thursday, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Pastor Gerald Toussaint said he is excited to meet Vice President Mike Pence. He also says he understands how important this visit is to continue shining light on all three churches burned in the parish.

21-year-old Holden Matthews was formally charged last month in connection to all three church burnings.
